How far have you gone to have control or FEEL like you have control over your life?Aside from the to-do lists and schedules, have you ever pushed your body past its limits?
As we begin our journey into motherhood, even before conception, there is SO little control we have and this can feel frightening, uneasy and can even lead us to harming ourselves or those who love us.
For Josephine Atluri, her long journey into motherhood wreaked havoc on her ability to control. A mama of 7 children… yes, you read that correctly, 7, Josephine’s path was rocky and she had no control. She went through so much stress to build her family, that it led to an eating disorder. How did she make it through and how in the world does she get through each day with 7 children?! It was at her lowest point that she discovered the need for something more and she turned to mediation.
Listen in to learn how the power of meditation has impacted her life and how it can change yours too on this episode of the Mamas in Training Podcast.
THE POWER OF BREATHING
Your breath is the greatest tool you have to regulate your cortisol levels and ground yourself when control seems to be fleeting. For Josephine, it became a necessity and she encourages women to start taking 5 minutes a day of breathing now, no matter where you are at in your motherhood journey.
While you practice breathing, it’s important to note that thoughts will come and go and that is normal. As you are breathing, acknowledge those thoughts, that grocery list, the to-do list and then release those thoughts with your next exhale. There is no such thing as a perfect meditation that is free from thoughts and oftentimes that can dissuade people from giving it a try. However, the massive impact simply breathing can have on your life is definitely underestimated.
The body is a truly powerful and amazing thing. Throughout the process of pregnancy, forming a strong connection to your body is essential for forming a strong connection with your baby. Pregnancy brings about great excitement and change, and often it can be difficult to carve out time to connect to your body and the baby you are nurturing. Mother of 7 and author of 5-Minute Mindfulness for Pregnancy: Simple Practices to Feel Calm, Present, and Connected to Your Baby (Rockridge Press, May 3 2022), a guided journal meant to stimulate self-compassion and mindfulness, Josephine Atluri seeks to provide moments of calm and connection for mommy and baby by teaching a foundation of mindfulness, encouraging practice, and empowering readers every step of the way.
